James G. Tice, 79, of Lebanon, left this life on June 3, 2026, with his wife and son beside him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sally Johnson Tice, son, Josh Tice, and grandchildren, Norah and Lucas Tice, of Wyomissing, PA. Jim is also survived by his step-siblings, Sandra Schuler, of Carmichael, CA, Carol Schuler Altman, and husband, Bob, of Corvallis, OR, and David Schuler, and wife, Ching, of Lawrenceville, GA. He is preceded in death by his father and stepmother, James and Alice Tice, mother, Vivian Sherrard, and sister, Connie Hersh.
Jim was a graduate of Annville-Cleona High School, Elizabethtown College, and Bethany Theological Seminary. His eclectic career began as the Director of Religious Activities and as the Director of Student Affairs at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA. He served as a hospital chaplain at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, IL, and at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA, and as a chaplain at the State Correctional Institution in Camp Hill, PA. For eight years, he was the Senior Pastor of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Jim’s first retirement came after seven years as Chief of the Treatment Division for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and four years with the Weed and Seed Program for the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. Not one to remain inactive, Jim came out of retirement and became the Gang Prevention and Weed and Seed Coordinator for the Eastern District of PA U.S. Attorney’s Office. Finally, he served as Project Manager for the Violent Crime Prevention Project in York, PA.
Jim and Sally moved to Cornwall Manor, a continuing care retirement community in Lebanon, PA, in 2019. Jim recently served as President of the Residents’ Association at Cornwall Manor, and, in 2024, Jim was invited to serve on the Board of Trustees for Cornwall Manor. In addition to serving his community, Jim had a passion for golf and could be found on various courses in most any weather. Jim was dedicated to his calling — a calling to serve his community, love and support his family and friends, and play as much golf as possible.
A memorial service will be held at the Levi Zerr Chapel on the Buckingham Campus of Cornwall Manor in Lebanon, PA, on Saturday, June 20, at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow in the auditorium of the Freeman Community Center on the Cornwall Manor campus. Interment will be private. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers are requested to be made to the Endowment Fund for Benevolent Care at Cornwall Manor or the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.
