James H. Reb, 40, of Hegins, PA passed away suddenly on Sept. 29, 2020. Born in Lebanon on July 10, 1980, James was the son of Gale I. (Spengler) Edwards and the late Richard E. Reb.
James graduated from Cedar Crest High School in 1999 and was recently employed as an assembler by M.I. Windows and Doors in Hegins, PA.
James was the eldest member of The Reb’s Three Musketeers that included his brother, John, and his late younger brother, who James often referred to as “Crazy Kyle with a K.” James was personable, charming, and funny. He was a happy guy and it was important to him that those around him were happy too. His sense of humor and knack for storytelling kept the mood light because James made no room for sadness in his presence.
As a child, James was always busy and often mischievous. In fact, he could write “Richard E. Reb” with such precision that he successfully penned all of his own school excuses throughout his academic career. He was also proud to have earned the title of class clown.
His best friend had four legs and was rescued from the SPCA at two years old. A purebred tree walker coonhound and former show dog, Pride was never far from James’ side.
James struggled with alcohol addiction for 19 years and was immensely proud to be five years sober. He worked hard to do better. He knew he needed direction and made it his priority to stay busy and remain active – and that he did. He lived on an acre of land tucked away in Hegins and, because of that, jokingly referred to himself as a “mountain man.” He cut the grass, filled countless planters with flowers, and hung bird feeders as far as the eye could see. James learned to cook for himself, took on countless DIY projects around the house, and was proud of the life he was creating for himself. In Jan., James began pursuing a degree from Southern New Hampshire University with the hopes of one day earning his master’s degree and working as a historian. James was hungry for knowledge and eager to learn – about everything and anything.
He loved and respected nature, exploring the mountains, its landscape, and the animals – especially the animals. So much so that when his brother, John, once asked him to go hunting, his response was “Sure I’ll take my gun for a walk in the woods with you,” never intending to fire a single shot, just being with his brother. That was enough for him. And just last Nov., James served as the best best man John could ask for when he stood by his side as he married his wife, Maureen.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the management and staff of M.I. Windows and Doors for the professionalism and kindness shown to James and his family during this time.
In additional to his mother, James is survived by his brother, John E. Reb and his wife, Maureen. In addition to his father, Richard E. Reb, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kyle R. Reb; maternal grandparents, Emerson and Emma Spegler; and paternal grandparents, Eugene and June Reb.
Funeral service details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in James’ name may be made to the Humane Society of Lebanon County, 150 N. Ramona Rd., Myerstown, PA 17067.
