On Thursday, January 30, 2020, Mr. James Richard McDaniel entered into his eternal afterlife following a long life with us. Up to his final moments of life, he was the loving father to his daughter, Kandy Lee Lackey, wife of Raymond Alan Lackey. He was married to Eleanor Mae (Cole) McDaniel for over 59 years until her death on June 4, 2009, after a long 20-year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
In addition to Kandy and Raymond, Mr. McDaniel leaves behind two grandchildren: Alan B. Lackey, of Pasadena, MD and Erin E. (Lackey) Riggleman, wife of Brian Riggleman, of Carvel Beach, MD and two great-grandchildren, Roman N. and Vena E. Riggleman.
Jim, as he was known by his family and friends, was born at home in Terra Alta, West Virginia, on Wednesday, May 18, 1927 to Austin Burwell McDaniel and Mary Elizabeth (Phillips) McDaniel. He was the last of his family’s generation, having been preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Jim leaves behind four nephews and six nieces.
Mr. McDaniel lived in Smithfield, PA until moving to Laurel, MD in 1967. He worked for the Department of Defense at Ft. George G. Meade and attended the First Baptist Church of Laurel. In 2011, he moved to Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA until his passing.
A private burial took place in Brownfield, PA. A public memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, February 21, 2020, at the First Baptist Church of Laurel, 15000 First Baptist Lane, Laurel, MD 20707. A time of visitation with the family will follow the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. McDaniel’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Laurel and mailed to the address listed above.
