James W. Rautzhan, 91, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at the Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital in Orwigsburg. He was the husband of the late Mary Rautzhan, who passed away in May 2020.

Born in Williamstown on April 24, 1932, he was the son of the late George Russell and Margaret (Shomper) Rautzhan.

James graduated from Williamstown High School with the Class of 1951. After he graduated, he enlisted in the Army in August 1951. He volunteered for the Korean conflict and was later deployed to Europe and Japan. He served a total of 42 years in the Army. James was a member of the Jonestown United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and radio-controlled model airplanes.

He is survived by his children, George William, husband of Nancy K. Rautzhan, of Fredericksburg, and Christine Marie, wife of Ronald Keren, of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Stacey Ann, wife of Robert Martens, Shara Marie, wife of Lloyd “Jr” Bomgardner, William Lloyd, husband of Alexandria Rautzhan, and Joshua M. Keren; and great-grandchildren, Carly and Lane Lehman, and Jackson and Declan Rautzhan.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, George Rautzhan and Marion Morrison.

Memorial services for both James and his wife, Mary, will be on Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Jonestown United Methodist Church, 109 W. Market St., Jonestown, PA 17038. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of James and Mary may be made to their church.
