Janet Frances (Eppley) Bucher, 96, of Palmyra, passed away on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, at Landis Homes in Lititz.

Janet was born on Sept. 4, 1928, on her family’s farm near Mechanicsburg, PA.

She was the daughter of Helen Erma (Bobb) Eppley and Weir Musser Eppley. She learned an appreciation for hard work and thrift, and a love for living things growing up on the farm. After graduating from Mechanicsburg High School, Janet earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and French from Lebanon Valley College in 1950.

While at Lebanon Valley College, Janet served as president of the Young Women’s Christian Association. At LVC, she met Norman B. Bucher Jr., and they married after graduation. She went on to support Norman as a pastor’s wife as he served churches in Quentin-Rexmont and Manheim. Over her career, she was a schoolteacher in Mechanicsburg, Manheim Central, and Annville-Cleona School Districts, teaching mostly English.

Janet loved gardening, cooking, sewing, and serving others through useful work of all kinds. Most of all, she loved her family and was always ready to help and support any way she could. She was a faithful member of Christ Church UCC in Annville, participating in the choir, Sunday School, and ladies’ groups. The many friends she met over her years were a wonderful blessing. Janet’s loving nature, sense of humor, quiet wisdom, and servant’s heart will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son, Alan, husband of Kathy Valtos Bucher; granddaughter, Kaitlin, wife of Rob Fiske; grandson, Andrew, husband of Lauren Herr Bucher; granddaughter, Rosemary; and grandson, Aaron.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; daughter, Jane; son, Mark; and brother, Robert Eppley.

A public visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at Christ Church United Church of Christ, 200 S. White Oak St., Annville, PA 17003. A memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the Church.
