Janet Levy Donato, 71, of Lebanon, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Spang Crest. She was the wife of Joseph W. Donato, with whom she celebrated 49 years of marriage on May 31.
Janet was born in Lima, Ohio, on Feb. 26, 1953, to the late Aaron and Frances Levy.
She obtained two master’s degrees, one in social work and one in counseling psychology. She was a clinical social worker. She began working at Kentucky State University with counseling students in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Janet also worked for the Lebanon VA Medical Center, Philhaven, Lancaster Health, and, more recently, WellSpan Philhaven. She was a member of the South Lebanon Community Church. Janet was involved with a variety of professional organizations during her career. She enjoyed playing the piano, horse riding, and dancing with Movement Lab in Lebanon. She gave to charities such as Jews for Jesus, the Christian Broadcasting Network, Horse Rescues, and Golden Retriever Rescues.
She is survived by her sisters, Sharry Greene (Jeff), of Newark, OH, and Marilyn Bissing (Ron), of West Palm Beach, FL; brothers-in-law and spouses, Rick Donato (Kathleen), of Lexington, KY, Jeff Donato (Pam), of Ligonier, PA, and Keith Donato, of Ligonier, PA; 12 nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Cindy, Lois, Steve and Steve, Kelsey and Eileen, of Charming Creek Farm in Robesonia, Judy with Movement Lab in Lebanon, and Charlene, a dear friend and workmate at Philhaven.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. at South Lebanon Community Church, 13 Evergreen Road, Lebanon. Light refreshments will follow the service. She will be laid to rest at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
