Joan L. Bernardo, 91, of Annville, passed away on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, at MS Hershey Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Valentino R. Bernardo, who passed away in 2002.

Joan was born in Lebanon on Jan. 15, 1932, to the late Herman and Dorothy (Stager) Bowman.

She was a 1949 Annville High School graduate and attended Lebanon Business College in 1951. She retired from Penn State College of Medicine as a secretary. After retirement, she continued to work part-time at the Brickerville House as a hostess and later at the Lebanon Community Library. Since the age of 17, Joan was an active member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, and over the years served on the consistory, was a deacon, sang in the choir, was a lay reader, attended the adult Bible class, and was on the congregational care committee. She enjoyed reading, doing cross stitch, and spending time with her family.

Joan is survived by her children, Vicki L. Bernardo, of Annville, David M. Bernardo (Diana), of Lebanon, and Michael D. Bernardo (Stacey), of Lebanon; grandchildren, Marko Resetar, Evan Bernardo, Crystal Colon, and Ryan Bernardo; a great-grandchild, Roman Colon; and her sister, Jean Rhine, of Elizabethtown.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Christ Church United Church of Christ, 200 S. White Oak St., Annville, PA 17003. Interment will be held privately in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. There will be a visitation with the family from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.
