John A. Barket, 85, of Tower City, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, at his home. He was the devoted husband of the late Peggy A. (Koppenhaver) Barket.
Born in Pottsville on May 14, 1940, John was the son of the late Joseph T. and Helen E. (Lihota) Barket. He was a graduate of the Williamstown Class of 1958. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines, where he served for six years. He then joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and served for 18 years. In 1982, he retired as an SMSgt. In 1995, he retired from Western Electric/AT&T, where he was a supervisor for the Installation Electronic Telephone Systems. He attended the Saints Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church in Tower City. He was a life member of the Gratz VFW Post 2385, the Jonestown American Legion Post #883, the AF Association, and the NRA. He was also a member of St. Francis of Assisi in Rochester, NY.
John is survived by his son, Matthew J., and his wife, Angela M. Barket, of Lebanon; daughter, Laraine C. Barket, of Pataskala, OH; brothers, Joseph Barket, of Savage, MN, and Thomas Barket, of Lavelle; sister, Bernadette Barket, of Schuylkill Haven; grandchildren, Jonathan M. (Angela) Barket, Anthony M. Barket, and Ambrose T. Barket; and great-granddaughter, Lucy Ann Barket. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James J. Barket and Jerome J. Barket.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, at Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Tower City.
