John Adam Ney passed away early in the morning on Jan. 5, 2025, in Lebanon, at the age of 78. He was the only child of Harry Elias Ney, who worked at Bethlehem Steel, and Annie Mariah (Yerger) Ney, a homemaker. Harry and Annie met in Annville while employed by Gideon R. Kreider and married in 1935.
John was named after his grandfather, John Adam Ney, who was an employee of the Reading Railroad; he moved his family to Lebanon from the village of Cold Spring in northern Lebanon County when Harry was a young man. His mother Annie’s family lived on a farm in Meckville, Berks County.
John was born in Lebanon on Oct. 11, 1946, baptized at Christ Church UCC in Annville, and graduated from Cornwall High School in 1964. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1968 as a mechanic in a maintenance company. John worked several different jobs during his working years: he was a milkman, a foreman at the San Giorgio Macaroni plant, and, after driving a tractor-trailer for a few years, a federal government employee at the New Cumberland Army Depot in 1986. During his career in federal employment, he also worked at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot.
When he was a young man, John was a member of the Lebanon Valley Motorcycle Club and met Theresa Schumacher after her brother Peter was hospitalized following a motorcycle accident. They married in 1973, and had four children together: Scott, Amy, Andrew, and Todd. Some of the things that he enjoyed were gardening, working around the house and on his vehicles, and visiting the Delaware Seashore.
Surviving, in addition to Theresa and his children, are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, at 10 a.m. from Kreamer Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 618 E. Main St., Annville. John will be buried at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, not far from his grandparents who once called the Gap their home. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of his service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Church United Church of Christ, 200 S. White Oak St., Annville, PA 17003, or to the Disabled American Veterans, https://www.dav.org/, in his memory.
