John J. Nemec Jr., 78, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the husband of Mary M. (Walmer) Nemec. On Nov. 18, they celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.
Born in Lebanon on Nov. 20, 1947, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Fanovic) Nemec. He was a member of the Lebanon Catholic High School Class of 1965. Following high school, he served in Iceland in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from the New Cumberland Army Depot, where he worked in the Medical Warehouse. Prior to his time at the Army Depot, he worked in HVAC with various local companies: Agway, Blouch’s, Cassel, and Bowman’s. John was a member of the Jonestown American Legion, the Legion Riders, and the Jonestown Perseverance Fire Co.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Todd M., husband of Sadie Massar, of Hershey; grandchildren, Joshua Massar and Adelaide (Jayson) Salois, and great-grandson, Aliester Salois, all of Middletown; brother, Robert (Joyce) Nemec, of Sumter, SC; and sisters, Sister Mary Anne Nemec, of Danville, and Margaret “Peg” (Joe) Serba, of Palmyra.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
