John S. Sweigart, 81, of Lebanon, died Friday, September 24, 2021, at his home. He joins Arlene, his beloved wife of 60 years, in eternal peace.
Born in Lancaster County on May 11, 1940, he was the son and one of seven children of the late Lloyd F. and Miriam Stauffer Sweigart. John attended Fredericksburg High School and went on to raise five children of his own. He may have left the family farm to make his way in the world, but farming never left him. Even when his vegetable gardens were no longer needed to help feed a family of seven, he kept the size the same and shared the extra bounty with friends, neighbors, and coworkers. He was a member of Living Waters Chapel active in the Prime Timers senior fellowship program.
Surviving him are sons Jeffrey D. Sweigart, husband of Susan, of Annville, John L. Sweigart, husband of Mary, of Wayne, WV, Gerald L. Sweigart, husband of Angel, of Mt. Joy, and Joseph M. Sweigart, husband of Kate, of New York, NY; siblings June Schwartz and Earl Sweigart; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Always quick with a smile, a story, and the gift of his full attention on you, he is missed by all. John was also preceded in death by his daughter Kathy L. Mecca, granddaughter Kaitlyn Mecca, and four siblings.
