Joseph A. Barnhart, 77, of Lebanon, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023, at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the husband of Mia (Taniguchi) Barnhart. They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this past December.
Born in Lebanon on September 1, 1945, he was the son of the late George and Ethel (Boyer) Barnhart.
Joseph served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam Conflict; he continued in the Navy and retired after 20 years of service supporting Naval Intelligence. He had a love of fishing, travel, and automobiles. He was also a passionate follower of Philadelphia Phillies baseball and Japanese sumo wrestling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael J., husband of Victoria Barnhart, of Great Falls, VA; grandchildren, Jacob and Noah; brothers, Kenneth Barnhart, of Houston, TX, Louis Barnhart, of Myerstown, John Barnhart, of Womelsdorf, William Barnhart, of Charming Forge, and George Barnhart, of Lebanon; and sisters, Marie Long, of Annville, and Alice Fox, of Rothsville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Rt 72 & Camp Meeting Rd., Jonestown. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service. A private interment with military honors will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
