Joseph O. Schies, 92, of Pine Grove passed away Friday, May 28, 2021, at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital.

Born in Lebanon on March 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Otto J. Schies and the late Esther Lane Schies. Joseph was a Veteran of the United States Army during World War II, and worked in Civil Service as an aircraft mechanic for the Army and Air Force over a period of 35 years. He was a former member of Fredericksburg EUB Church, Jonestown Bible Church, Echo Valley Grace Brethren in Tremont, Elco Bible Church, North Annville Bible Church, and Valley View Calvary Chapel.

Surviving are two sons, Stanley G. Schies, of Lebanon, Dennis L. Schies, husband of Jan, of Downingtown, two daughters, Ruth A. Carl, wife of David A., of Pine Grove, Linda Jo Turnidge, wife of Doug G., of Imbler, Oregon, one brother, Ron Schies, husband of Fran of Newmanstown, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Schies and Dick Schies, and one infant sister, Elizabeth Schies. Joe enjoyed hunting, trapping, gardening, and singing throughout his life, and sang with the Lebanon Singing Cedars for many years. His life passion was flying, which he began at the age of 16 at Farmer’s Pride Airport in Fredericksburg.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Jonestown Bible Church, 14 Silvertown Road, Jonestown, PA 17038. A public viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial with Military Honors will be held at Jonestown Bible Church Cemetery following the service.
