Joyce A. “Nanny” Butera, 82, of Lebanon, died on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at her home.

She was born on Thursday, March 7, 1940, to the late John C. Novak and Dorothy P. Novak nee Wonders in Lebanon.

Joyce was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. She held a number of post-military jobs but was affectionately known as “Baretta” while working at Cedar Crest High School as a disciplinarian. She eventually retired from Verizon. Joyce was a legendary cook and baker, supplying all the pies and cookies to the family for every holiday. She was also a gardener, author, and huge fan of the Minnesota Vikings. She loved her dogs, cats, and tropical fish. Her family will always remember her strong faith and unconditional love of family.

Surviving is children Joseph J. Butera, New Cumberland (Caren Butera); Nina M. Butera of Syracuse NY; Susan L. Butera of Lebanon and Steven M. Butera of Hummelstown. Joyce was Nanny to 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, John C. Novak, Jr.

Viewing will be on Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Christman’s Funeral Home, Inc. 226 Cumberland Street, Lebanon. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lebanon, following the service.
