Kathryn S. Allwein, 96, of Annville, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at The Lebanon Valley Home. She was the wife of the late William E. Allwein. She was also preceded in death by Ralph “Max” Troain, her faithful companion of 20 years.
Kathryn was born in Lebanon on January 12, 1925, to the late Ernest and Olive (Miller) Shirk. Kathryn worked for Bethlehem Steel, the Lebanon Credit Bureau, and retired from an attorney’s office in title search and land research.
Kathryn volunteered at the Lebanon VA Medical Center after her husbands’ death in 1995. She was baptized Lutheran, and later became Catholic, attending St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lebanon. She enjoyed knitting, donating many baby hats to a local nonprofit. She liked learning about local history, was also an avid reader, who always had an atlas handy to know where she was reading about. Kathryn enjoyed traveling with her late husband in their motorhome to Florida and out west, meeting many friends along the way.
Surviving are her daughters, Jane Link and her husband Gordon, Stephanie Gahres, Patricia Garrigan and her husband Paul, Ann Marie Shallcross and her husband Kevin, Jacquelyn Booth and her husband David, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a sister Florence Spindler. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Thomas Gahres, and her siblings, Ernest, Fred, Edward, Joseph, Mary, Olive, and Alice.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the nurses, caregivers, and staff at the Lebanon Valley Home for all the love and care that was given to their mother Kathryn.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. from Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 618 E. Main Street, Annville. Visitation at the funeral home will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held privately at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
