Kenneth F. Leedy, 81, of Lebanon, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, after a short stay at Spang Crest skilled nursing facility. He was the husband of Linda F. (Leahy) Leedy, with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Ken was born in Lebanon, PA, on December 4, 1941, to the late Harrison and Marian (Rittle) Leedy.
He was a 1960 Lebanon Catholic High School graduate. He worked for 43 years at New Penn Motor Express, based in Lebanon, PA. Ken started as a rate clerk in 1960 and worked his way to President of New Penn Motor Express, retiring in 2003.
During Ken’s career, he held almost every possible responsibility at New Penn. He also served on the Teamsters National Freight Industry Negotiating Committee (TNFINC) and was a trustee on the Teamsters Pension Fund of Philadelphia.
Ken was an avid sports fan. In his early years, he coached basketball at the YMCA and had season tickets to the Hershey Bears. He was an Eagles season ticket holder for 40 years and was fortunate to attend many Super Bowls and Indianapolis 500 racing events. He loved playing golf with his regular foursome at the Lebanon Country Club on the weekend, and he spent two terms as the President of the Board there as well.
Ken loved to travel, particularly enjoying his first trip to Europe through France and Germany with his wife and friends, Pard and Ethyl. He made many golf trips to Scotland and loved the 25 years he spent at his home in Marco Island, FL, where he entertained family and friends all winter long.
Ken was charitable in ways big and small. As well as making anonymous donations to families in need and being generous with his own family, he made major donations to Lebanon Catholic School and Lebanon Valley College. The Leedy Theatre at Lebanon Valley College is named after Ken.
Ken was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Elks Club Lodge. He was known to have many friends and made sure to keep in contact with them all. He truly had a gift for connecting with people, and he placed a very high value on the relationships that he made.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his sons, Gregory Leedy (Kathleen), of Lebanon, David Leedy (Rebecca), of Lebanon, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Sally Allwein (William), of Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Terrance and William Leedy.
In addition to his immediate family, Ken leaves so many current and former members of the New Penn family who loved and respected him as a leader, a mentor, and a friend.
