Linford L. Swartzentruber, 79, of Shoemakersville, PA, passed away at his home on Dec. 21, 2023. He was the husband of JoAnne Detweiler Swartzentruber. On Oct. 19, they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Born in Greenwood, DE, on Oct. 13, 1944, he was the son of the late Mark E. and Ella Yoder Swartzentruber.
He was a current member of the Crossway Mennonite Fellowship, Bird-In-Hand, PA. From 1966-1968, he served in Costa Rica, doing volunteer service work under the Rosedale Mennonite Mission. From 1973-1978, he and his family were missionaries in Guatemala under the Mennonite Messianic Mission. He worked for Shank Door Company in Myerstown, and he also truck farmed for several years. In 1988, he started Green Acres Lawn Furniture in Whitehall, PA, and in 2017, he sold the last of his business shares to his son, Carl.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Carl R., of Auburn, PA, Conrad M., of Ephrata, PA, Curvin L., of Fleetwood, PA, Cleon L., of Shoemakersville, PA, Clair L., of Kenai, AK, Clayton P., of Myerstown, PA, and Caryn J. Hales, of Leola, PA; brothers, Marlin and Roger Swartzentruber; sisters, Daisy Miller, Goldie Fretz, and Verla Byler; 28 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four grandchildren; his brother, Duane; and his sister, Glenda Byler.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, at St. Michael’s Church, 529 St. Michael’s Road, Hamburg. There will be a viewing from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the church. Interment will follow the service in the adjoining church cemetery.
