Lloyd R. Gingrich, of Londonderry Village, Palmyra, passed away on May 16, 2024, at Londonderry Village.
He was born in Lebanon County to the Rev. Hiram G. and Nora M. Gingrich on Nov. 24, 1929, and married Velma Stauffer on April 2, 1950. They shared 74 years of marriage, making their home in Lebanon County.
Lloyd graduated from Hershey High School in 1947, after which he attended Elizabethtown College. He was a member of the Annville Church of the Brethren, where he served in many leadership roles, including deacon, treasurer, financial secretary, and youth advisor. He enjoyed singing in the choir and with small groups of singers.
At the age of 16, Lloyd went to war-torn Poland on a ship as a “Sea Going Cowboy,” taking care of horses being sent there by a Church of the Brethren project, Heifers for Relief (today’s Heifer Project International), to share in the recovery efforts after WWII.
Lloyd worked for Ebersole’s in both Cleona and Lebanon for 25 years and retired from E.O. Miller Chevrolet, Hershey, where he was the business manager for 25 years. Following were several years at Umbergers of Fontana. He served on the Board of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home (now Londonderry Village) for six years and also volunteered there. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, following the Phillies, and, in his younger years, playing softball. Lloyd was a devoted husband and father of two sons.
Surviving is two sons, Steven B. (Beth), of Lancaster, and L. Randall (Barbara), of Palmyra; granddaughter, Nicole Stansfield (Christopher); great-grandchildren, Payton Stansfield (fiance Logan Fishel), and Carter Stansfield; great-great-grandson, Braxton Fishel; step-granddaughter, Heather Grimm (Marcus); step-great-grandchildren, Allison Dively (Caleb) and Harrison Grimm; and step great-great-granddaughter, Adlee Dively.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Harold and Walter.
A memorial service will be held at the Annville Church of the Brethren on June 10, 2024, at 4 p.m., with visitation with the family starting at 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be private at the South Annville Cemetery.
