Lorraine Elizabeth (Swanson) Fowler, 77, formerly of Floral Park, NY, passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, in Lebanon, PA, surrounded by her immediate family. She was the wife of David L. Fowler, with whom she had recently celebrated 45 years of marriage.
Lorraine was born in Brooklyn, NY, on Dec. 11, 1945, to the late Sven and Gunhild (Carlson) Swanson.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College in Illinois (class of 1967) and her master’s degree in education from Queens College (New York). Lorraine was a well-known and respected teacher at John Lewis Childs School (Floral Park) for over 30 years. Besides being an educator, she was known for her strong Christian faith, which was modeled on both sides of the family. She was active in numerous churches throughout her life, including New Hyde Park Baptist Church in New Hyde Park, NY, and, after moving to PA, South Lebanon Community Church. Among her favorite pastimes were reading, leading Bible studies, playing games with family and friends, watching Jeopardy!, and traveling all over the world. She also enjoyed making crafts, including homemade Christmas ornaments, and baking, especially around the holidays. More recently, she loved being Nana to her beloved five grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, David; sons, Daniel L. Fowler, of Brooklyn, NY, Matthew S. Fowler (Meredith), of Sheboygan, WI, and Peter D. Fowler (Anne), of Matthews, NC; five grandchildren, Emmaline, Chase, Sven, Ellen, Bryce; and her siblings, Ronald (Marilyn) Swanson and Janet Swanson, of Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 618 E. Main St., Annville. There will be a visitation with the family from 12:30-1:30 p.m., immediately before the service at the venue. For those unable to attend in person, it will be available on live stream.
