Mabel “Susie” Gernert, 71, of Cornwall, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at her residence. She was the loving wife of Dale Gernert, to whom she was married for 53 years.
Born in Lebanon, she was a daughter of the late Harry Christian and Stella Jean (Bricker) Fies. Susie worked as a pressman for York Tape and Label and REM in the shipping department. She was a member of the Mount Wilson Church of the Brethren, where she was a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and member of the playground committee. Susie enjoyed baking, camping, riding the four-wheeler, playing in creeks, and going to the family cabin. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, who were a large part of her life.
In addition to her husband, Dale, she is survived by her son, Denny Gernert, and his wife, Stacey; daughter, Susan Freet; grandchildren, Leah, wife of Ethan Shirk, Cameron Freet, Kaylin Gernert, and Kinsley Gernert; great-grandchildren, Karson Shirk and Greyson Shirk; brothers, Harry Fies, and his wife, Darlene, and Ron Fies; and sisters, Donna Lasher, Sandy, wife of Gene Smith, and Sharon, wife of Alan Morris. Susie was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Fies; and brother-in-law, Tom Lasher.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at 11 a.m., from the Mount Wilson Church of the Brethren, 1261 Mount Wilson Road, Lebanon, PA 17042. Burial will be held privately. A visitation with her family will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of her service at the Church.
