Margaret R. Umble, 82, of Myerstown, died on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at her residence. She was the wife of Lawrence H. “Larry” Umble, to whom she would have been married 59 years on July 9, 2025.
Born in Attica Township, MI, on Jan. 18, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Elva (Weber) Gascho. Margaret was a 1961 graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School and a 1966 graduate of Eastern Mennonite College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Spanish. She was the owner of J.O.Y. Bookstore, Sinking Spring, for 26 years, until her retirement in 2013. Margaret enjoyed cooking, gardening, and studying the Bible, and she was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Michelle Umble, of Myerstown, and Loreen Umble, of Douglassville; sister, Esther, wife of Roy Baldridge, of Whitehall, MI; brothers, James, husband of Lila Gascho, of Goshen, IN, and John, husband of Kathy Gascho, of Denton, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Gingrich’s Mennonite Church, 100 Forney Road, Lebanon, preceded by a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private at Gingrich’s Mennonite Cemetery, Lebanon.
