The family of Martha Joanne Flanick (nee Buckoski), born on March 4, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA, announces her passing on Jan. 11, 2026, at the age of 99 in Palmyra, PA.

Martha will be remembered by her children, Mark Flanick (Deanna), of Asbury Park, NJ, James Flanick (Barbara), of Boca Raton, FL, Jill Kessler (Bruce), of Bluffton, SC, and Lee Flanick (Denise), of Fredericksburg, PA; grandchildren, Niall Flanick (Britney), of Greer, SC, Alannah Mascarella, of Pittsboro, NC, Alexandra Flanick, of San Diego, CA, and Erika Dandridge (Josh), of Folsom, PA; and great-grandchildren, Juliette Mascarella and Aoife Flanick.

Martha was predeceased by her husband, Eugene C. Flanick, of Pittsburgh, PA; and only sibling, Janet R. Buckoski, of Pittsburgh, PA. Martha met her husband, Eugene, on a blind date and, prior to Eugene’s passing, had been married for 65 years.

Martha studied nursing through the Army Nurse Cadet’s Program and ultimately became the Head Nurse in the Medical and Women’s Surgical Unit at Shadyside Hospital in Shadyside, PA.

Martha was volunteer-minded, often reading to school children and reading to the sight-impaired. It is in this spirit that Martha has generously donated her body to the Humanities Gift Registry for study.

Upon the return of Martha’s ashes from the gift registry, and on a future date, a funeral mass will be held in Palmyra, PA. Inurnment will follow at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.

Martha was a devout Catholic, reading the Bible daily. Those who desire may make a memorial donation to the Harrisburg Diocese: hbgdiocese.org.
