Betsy went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, May 26, 2025. She passed this life on her 63rd wedding anniversary to John F. Ray, of Chestertown, MD.
Betsy was born in Reading, PA, to J. Carroll and Mary E. (Williams) Mast on June 5, 1939. She was the third of three girls — Louise, Suzanne, and Betsy — born to Carroll and Mary.
Betsy was the loving mother of three children, Benjamin, and his wife, Bibiana, of Washington, D.C., Alex, and his wife, Linda, of Lancaster, PA, and Beatrix (Trixi), and Sharon Perez, of Mountville, PA. She was the grandmother to four boys, Ben’s son, Kyle, and Alex’s sons, Jack, Luke, and Mark. She is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren. She is also survived by three nephews and four nieces.
In addition to being a caring and devoted mother and grandmother, Betsy worked as a teacher for the Reading School District and her husband’s architectural firm for many years.
Betsy loved all Philadelphia sports teams and was a great athlete overall; she loved tennis and bowling. She and her husband played in a croquet group after their retirement in 1992. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, laughing, and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed taking family trips to the Abacos, Bahamas.
Betsy and John moved to Chestertown, MD, permanently in 1992 to their home, “Nearwater.” She enjoyed being part of the Chestertown Garden Club, K.A.R.T., and St. Paul’s, Kent Episcopal Church.
