Mary L. Baer, 77, of Bethel passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 1, 2022, at her residence. She was the beloved wife of Ronald E. Baer, Sr., of Bethel since 1962.

Mary was born on September 5, 1944, in Newberry Township, York County to the late Preston C. and Effie A. Parthemer.

She spent her life growing up in the Brethren in Christ Church community. She attended Niagara Christian Collegiate School in Ontario, Canada, and graduated from Susquehanna High School with the Class of 1962. Mary completed a nursing program and began working at the Harrisburg State Hospital, where she cared for patients and blessed them with her voice in song during Sunday services. During this time, she met and married the love of her life and spent the next 59 years celebrating their union.

Mary attended the LifePoint Church in Harrisburg, where she was active in the community. For over 47 years Mary joined her husband in driving pilot cars across many of the 50 states, with Maine being one of her favorites to visit. It has been said by many that when Mary was created, God broke the mold. Mary was very creative, caring, and strong. Most of all, she was a loving wife and mother who supported her family in all their endeavors.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Ronald (Cheryl) Baer, Jr. of Dillsburg, Darryl (Candy) Baer of Mechanicsburg, Joseph (Rebecca) Shifflett of Texas, Dallas (Holly) Baer of Bethel, and Effie (Bernard) Yannetti of Gettysburg; grandchildren Jason, Jillian, Shawn, Evan, Amber, Cody, Kaytlynne, Josilynne, Ashlee, Scarlett, Jordan, Jarred, Madelyn, and Michael; eighteen great-grandchildren; and sister Nancy Rosenberry of Elizabethtown.

She was preceded in death by brothers Roderick and Barry Parthemer and sister Darnece Simmons.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at LifePoint Church, 7733 Hillcrest Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17112. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the LifePoint Church Student’s Program.
