Mary M. Zimmerman, 91, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital. She was the wife of the late James M. Zimmerman.

Born in Mifflinville on January 25, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Ernest A.M. and Thelma Pifer Saphore. Mary had worked as a seamstress at the former Susan Garment in Fredericksburg. She was a member of the Lebanon Area Evangelical Free Church, Jonestown, and a former member of the Fredericksburg U.M. Church, and the First Baptist Church, Lebanon. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years and was involved in Truth Seekers. Following the Vietnam Conflict, the Zimmermans welcomed several Vietnamese refugee families into their home and helped them find jobs and become self-sufficient.

She is survived by her sons, James M. husband of Margaret Zimmerman, of Lititz, David M. husband of Kathy Zimmerman, of Dillsburg and John M. husband of Lori Zimmerman, of Jonestown, daughter Thelma M. wife of Rickey Boyer, of Myerstown, brother Allen Saphore, of Fredericksburg, sister Maybelle “Mickey” Schies, of Lebanon, sixteen grandchildren, and forty-two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest and William Saphore, and her sister, Ruth Tilley.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at the Lebanon Area Evangelical Free Church, 600 Shepherd St., Jonestown. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg.
