Mays G. Kurtz, Jr., 93, of Lebanon, died on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021.
He was the widower of Darlene M. (Shue) Kurtz. They celebrated 62.5 years together, before she died in 2012. They were married in Quentin Reformed Church in 1950 by the late Reynald Ziegler. Born in North Cornwall Twp., PA on Aug. 13, 1927, he was a son of the late Meta (Bachman) Kurtz and Mays G. Kurtz, Sr. Mays attended Isabella’s one-room schoolhouse for eight years, then graduated from Cornwall High School in 1945. He served as class president, president of student council, local and county FFA, awarded Keystone Degree, and elected State Chaplin. Mays was a dairy farmer for 43 years in West Cornwall Twp. and a licensed auctioneer. He received numerous awards from Wengert’s Dairy for quality milk production. Mays was on the Co. Farmers Association Board of Directors. He enjoyed attending Lebanon Valley Bible Church. Mays taught Sunday School for 19 years to the senior high boys. He was elected to various church offices, Financial Secretary, Cemetery Board, and was involved in building the new church.
Mays enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, such as visiting points of local interest, taking drives around Amish Country, in Lancaster, and surrounding counties. He savored eating at Shady Maple and Yoders in New Holland. Mays liked watching the news, some sports, pawnshop, and animal programs on TV. He appreciated living in the Lebanon area surrounded by many, loving and caring neighbors and friends.
Mays is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mays was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl and Harry Kurtz.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021 from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. at Grose Funeral Home, Inc., 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, PA 17067. Please maintain social distancing guidelines. Funeral service is private.
