Melvin Ralph Oyler, 91, of Reading, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at Berks Heim Nursing Home.

Born in Laureldale, PA on Mar. 6, 1929, Melvin was the son of the late Raymond C. and Gertrude I. (Reinert) Oyler. He attended Muhlenburg High School and married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn J. (Wertz) Oyler. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in Sept. Together they raised Pekingese, were caretakers of a kids’ summer camp, and served for years at the Lammermuir House, a retirement home for missionaries. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening and, in his younger days, loved deep-sea fishing.

In addition to his wife, Melvin is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl L. Hatcher, and her husband, Thomas, and Bonnie J. Bollinger. He will forever be remembered as “Poppop” to his five grandchildren, Stephanie, Jessica, Daniel, Justin, and Adam along with five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Cronrath.

Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
