Melvin W. “Mel” Sterner, 89, formerly of Myerstown, PA, died on April 20, 2026, at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle, PA. He was the husband of the late Dorothy J. “Dottie” (Ratliff) Sterner, to whom he was married for 56 years at the time of her passing.
Born in Green Point, PA, Mel was the son of the late Walter and Alverta (Swalm) Sterner. He was predeceased by his sister, Eileen (Lester) Wolfe; and brother, Ronald Sterner. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Although most of his adult life was spent in Myerstown, Mel grew up in Jonestown, PA, and considered that “home,” graduating from high school there in 1954.
Mel proudly served in the Army National Guard of PA and as a Reserve of the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965, where he qualified as a Sharpshooter. He was employed for many years at Cleaver-Brooks in Lebanon, PA. Mel enjoyed going to car shows, riding motorcycles, playing softball, and golfing.
There will be no services. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
