Michael L. Shewbridge Sr., 79, passed away on March 29, 2025, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lebanon, PA. A fighter in spite of his hospice diagnosis, Michael Shewbridge truly was poised to “not go gentle into that good night” (Dylan Thomas). Ultimately, however, he blessedly found peace as he slipped into eternity with his Lord in the presence of his family.

Michael Shewbridge was born on Sept. 13, 1945, in Columbia, PA, to James and Mary Shewbridge.

Michael served his country in the Navy, enlisting in 1964. Following an honorable discharge, he continued to honor the common good of our nation by pursuing a long career in private security. Michael married Linda Shewbridge, and the couple had four children: Michael Shewbridge Jr., James Shewbridge, Brett Shewbridge, and Shannon Shewbridge.

Michael was a longtime fan of the Washington Commanders. For as long as he was still physically able, he loved to toss a pigskin with his adoring grandkids or play basketball with them. A fan of spaghetti Westerns and classic sitcoms alike, Michael was a veritable dictionary of quotes and catchphrases. He had a heart for volunteering with The Moving Wall — a touring replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. — in the area of Lancaster, PA.

Michael is survived by his sons and daughter; grandchildren, Brian, Klarissa, Tyler, Jordan, Joshua, and Jonah; and great-grandchildren, Anthony, Trevor, Maverick, Ivy, and Millie.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda.

Services for Michael Shewbridge Sr. will be at the convenience of the family.
