Parker N. Johnstone, 90, of Cornwall, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Cornwall Manor. He is survived by his wife, Helen K. Gloyd, and was preceded in death by his late wife, Phyllis J. Layton.

Born in New Haven, CT, on March 16, 1933, he was the son of the late Frederic L. and Martha H. (Noa) Johnstone.

Parker was an active volunteer in the Rescue Squad and Fire Departments in Madison, New Jersey, and North Carolina.

He was involved with critical church repairs and activities in Madison, New Jersey, and also served on the church maintenance team in Brevard, North Carolina. He was also a board member and treasurer for the Transylvania Christian Ministry in Brevard, North Carolina.

He was a supporting advisor of Boy Scout Explorer Post #268 in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, and eventually led an Explorer Post in that community, which focused on canoeing, trail repairs, backpacking, and camping.

Parker was also active in Christian ministries for disaster recovery, leading or working on teams executing repairs from various storm scenarios in the eastern half of the USA.

Parker supported his sons’ interests in music and was in regular attendance at many of their concerts and musical events, both in Berkeley Heights & Madison, New Jersey.

Surviving he and his first wife, Phyllis J. Layton, is four sons, Dr. Frederic L. Johnstone, husband of Suzanne, of Puyallup, Washington, Steven A. Johnstone, of Reading, Pennsylvania, Douglas B. Johnstone, of Springfield, Vermont, and Thomas P. Johnstone, of West Yorkshire, United Kingdom; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren from his first marriage to Phyllis J Layton.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, is four step-children by Helen K. Gloyd, William F. Presnell, of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Jonathan Presnell, of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, Thomas Presnell, of Mine Hills, New Jersey, and Katherine (Presnell) Barrabee, of San Diego, California. A total of 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive as well.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
