Patricia Sally Ann Whitmoyer Shaak, of Myerstown, passed away at Linden Village of Lebanon on Aug. 6, 2025. She was the wife of the late Frederick “Fritz” Shaak for over 68 years prior to his passing in March 2024.

Born on March 4, 1933, in Myerstown, PA, Sally Ann was the daughter of the late Clarence Whitmoyer and Dorothy Strickler Whitmoyer. She was a lifelong resident of the Myerstown community, graduating first in her class from Myerstown High School in 1951. She graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 1955 with a B.A. in elementary education. Upon graduation, she began her teaching career as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher at Bethel and Myerstown elementary schools until leaving teaching to raise her young family. She later resumed her teaching career as a reading specialist and first-grade teacher at Jackson Elementary School until her retirement.

Sally Ann was a loving and devoted wife and mother who was actively engaged in supporting her children’s education, sports, and other activities. She was actively involved in the Myerstown Women’s Club and was a Sunday school teacher at the Myerstown United Methodist Church for many years. She loved to shop for clothing for herself and her family. In her later years, she was a member of the Myerstown United Church of Christ and spent countless hours reading to her five grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, and doing various types of puzzle books.

Sally Ann is survived by her children, Frederick “Fritz” Shaak Jr. (Cathy), Michael Shaak (Corinne), and Stephanie Carpenter (Brian); grandchildren, Rebekka Kuhn (Daniel), Frederick Shaak III (Haley), Michael Shaak Jr. (Taylor), Madelyn Shaak, and Claire Shaak; great-grandchildren, Henry Kuhn, Callum Kuhn, and Frederick Shaak IV; brother, John Whitmoyer (Ellen); sister-in-law, Jocelyn Whitmoyer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sally Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz Shaak; and brother, C. Walter Whitmoyer Jr.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Just Like Family, Linden Village, and Heartland Hospice for their compassion and care that Sally Ann received over the past year.

A visitation is planned for family and friends at the Grose Funeral Home in Myerstown on Friday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon. A private interment for Sally Ann and Fritz at the Albright Chapel cemetery in Kleinfeltersville, PA, is planned at a later date.
