Paul A. Heise died on Friday, February 4, 2022.
Paul was born in Ferndale, Michigan on August 24, 1932. He was the third son of Evelyn and Claude Heise, both deceased. He has three brothers; Bert, Kenan (wife
Carol) and Joris. His brothers Claude, Charlie and sister Mary Lou preceded him in death.
He died at Cornwall Manor where he resided since 2019. Previously he had lived in Mount Gretna, PA for over 20 happy years.
Paul was a political economist, a teacher, a public servant, and a devoted family man. His education ranged from a Franciscan monastery, interrupted by a three-year enlistment in the U.S. Army, on to Georgetown University where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, a Master’s degree from Harvard University and a PhD from The New School for Social Research in New York City.
Professor Paul Heise, not your typical economist, maintained a broad interest in environment, politics and peace issues. He spent twenty-five years in government service. He served in the office of US Trade Representative’s office, the State Department and the Labor Department.
For two and a half years he was handling trade negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland. Next, he became the liaison between Labor and the White House during the Carter Administration. He then brought his government expertise to the classroom. After teaching at several colleges, Professor Heise found his home as a tenured full professor at Lebanon Valley College. He also enjoyed writing a bi-weekly column for the Lebanon Daily News.
Paul is survived by his wife Roberta “Bobbie” Warshaw with whom he shared over 27 wonderful years; his five beloved children, Alyce, Ginny, Eric (Gene Chen), Jonathan and Monika (Ed Parris) and two adored grandchildren, Philanna and Dylan as well as his two stepchildren, Nan (Mark Panick) and Adam (Melissa Minchalla) and 5 step-grandchildren, Finn, Inez, Elias, Cruz and Frida.
Paul was an avid reader, golfer, and poker player. He loved to travel the world and until recent years he hiked, skied, sailed, canoed, and camped.
A celebration of his life will be held at a date convenient for the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cornwall Manor Society, 1 Boyd Street, Cornwall, PA 17016 in his memory. Kreamer Funeral Home, Annville is overseeing arrangements.
