Peter Gamber, Jr., 96, of Annville, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023, at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara (Long) Gamber, with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Peter was born in Lebanon on May 27, 1926, to the late Peter Gamber, Sr., and Margaret (Lentz) Gamber.
He was a 1944 Lebanon High School graduate, a 1948 Lebanon Valley College graduate, and a 1968 Union College graduate in Schenectady, NY, with a master’s degree in scientific teaching. Peter taught science and math at Lebanon High School, Annville-Cleona High School, and Hershey Derry Twp. School District for a total of 37 years. He had also worked at Annville Auto Center. Peter was the 1st football coach at Annville-Cleona High School. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Lebanon, where he sang in the choir. It was while singing in the choir that he met his wife, Barbara. He was a 70-year member of Mt. Olivet 704 Lodge F&AM, past president and 50-year member of the Seeley’s Bay Contrary Club in Ontario, Canada, and a member of Water Works Fire Company. He enjoyed woodworking, furniture making, golfing, fishing, reading, telling jokes and stories, and spending time with family. His greatest achievement was paying for his own college tuition and becoming the first member of his family to graduate from college. His second greatest achievement was helping to pay for his granddaughter’s college education.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Alecia Albright (Brian), granddaughter, Brianna Albright, and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Gamber, sister, Margaret Brewer, brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” Brewer, sister-in-law, Patricia Wentling, father-in-law, C.P. Long, and mother-in-law, Ethel (Wren) Long.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 11 AM at Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 618 E. Main Street, Annville. There will be a Masonic Service held prior at 9:45 AM, followed by a viewing from 10 AM-11 AM. Interment will be in Grand View Memorial Park, Annville.
