Raymond G. Hower, 92, of Lebanon, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022. He was the husband of Betty L. Keller Hower. On Aug. 11th, they would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.
Born in Lebanon on August 11, 1929, he was the son of the late David P. and Helen M. Rhen Hower.
Following high school, he served in the U.S. Navy. For many years he worked as the shipping clerk for Lebanon Steel Foundry. He also was a tax practitioner. Ray was a member and Elder of the St. John’s United Church of Christ, Jonestown, where he had served on the consistory. He was also a member of the Lebanon Steel Foundry Breakfast Club and the Commission for the Lebanon Midget Football League. He served as a coach of midget football and baseball and an umpire for midget baseball. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Many would especially remember him for having the Heilmandale (Hower) playground in his backyard.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Timothy R. husband of Tam Hower of Mt. Gretna; daughters Diana L. wife of Dennis Fox of Lebanon, and Tina M. Hower and her fiancé Dennis Echternach of Lebanon; brothers Ernest Hower of Harrisburg and Donald Hower of Lebanon; grandsons David (Stephanie) Fox, Matthew (Ariel) Fox, Thomas (Allie) Hower and Nathan (Nikki) Hower; great-grandchildren Raelyn, Peyton, Ledger, Rhett, Kendall, Charlotte and Avery; and step-grandchildren Cassidy & Sydney.
He was preceded in death by siblings James, David, Earl and Robert Hower, Dolores Hassler, and twins Eugene and Jeanette Hower.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022, at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
