Rev. Eugene L. Shiffer, 92, of Lebanon, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was the husband of the late Elisabeth L. (Bergner) Shiffer, who passed away on Oct. 6, 2022.
Born in Washington Township on July 9, 1933, he was the son of the late Roy and Carrie (Rowe) Shiffer. A native of Millersburg, Pastor Shiffer received his A.B. degree from Muhlenberg College in Allentown and his B.D. degree from Mount Airy Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He also completed post-graduate work at the Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary. Over the years, he pastored at the Follmer Parish in Potts Grove, the Jonestown Lutheran Parish, the Salem Lutheran Church in Reamstown, and the Mount Zion Parish in Lebanon. After retiring from the active ministry, he continued as an interim pastor at several churches, including 17 years at Christ Lutheran Church in Stouchsburg.
Throughout his ministry, he served the church as conference secretary, member of the Home Missions, the Commission of the Ministry, the Continuing Education Committee, and the Parish Development Committee, all within the former Central PA Synod of the Lutheran Church in America. He also served as president of the Lutheran Pastoral Association of North Lancaster District and Secretary of the North Lancaster District. Pastor Shiffer was always involved in the communities where he served, as a hospital chaplain, an active member of the local Lions Club, or with various pastoral groups. He lived his life in service for others.
In his spare time, he enjoyed antiquing, camping, reading, and tending to his yard. He was known for his impeccably kept cars and took pride in his 1974 classic Cadillac. Above all, he cherished times spent with his family.
He is survived by his sons, Stephen E., and his wife, Faith Shiffer, of Stevens, and Peter E. Shiffer, of Ephrata; daughter, Christa E. Shiffer, of Wyomissing; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry D. Shiffer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, at the Zoar Evangelical Lutheran Church, 560 Freeport Road, Lebanon. There will be a viewing from 9 a.m. until the start of the service. Interment will be private at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Rife.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Zoar Lutheran Church, the St. John’s Lutheran Church, or the Christ Lutheran Church, 27 Long’s Church Ln., Womelsdorf, PA 19567.
Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown, is honored to serve the family
