Richard C. Bordner, 90, of Lebanon, passed away on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor J. Uhler Bordner. They would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on Dec. 24.
Born in Upper Tulpehocken Twp. on June 8, 1933, he was the son of the late Calvin P. Bordner and Emma M. Trautman and stepson of the late Kenneth H. Spangler.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War. He graduated from Tri-State University, IN, and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He retired as Chief Auditor at the former Lebanon Valley National Bank. He was a member of St. John’s U.C.C. in Jonestown and the Jonestown Lion’s Club, where he served as president on two occasions. He was also a member of the Mt. Lebanon Lodge #226, the Zembo Temple, the Lebanon County Shrine Club, and the Harrisburg Consistory. He was a member and past commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 14-03. Plus, he served as treasurer of the Boy Scouts Troop 32 for many years. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family at their cabin. He loved to travel and visited all 50 states as well as 19 countries.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James M. Bordner, of DE; daughters, Sheila M., wife of David J. Hess, of Bernville, and Susan A. Bordner, of CA; half-sisters, Marilyn Hoffa, of Hershey, and Madelyn Lynch, of Myerstown; half-brother, Randy Spangler, of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, James M. Bordner Jr., Whitney L. Hess, and Courtney N. Hess; and three great-granddaughters, Aspen, Haven, and Denni.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Robert C. Bordner.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Jonestown, at the convenience of the family.
