Richard L. “Dick” Orwig, 82, of Jonestown, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at the WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was the husband of his best friend Kathleen F. (Williams) Orwig of Jonestown. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this past May.
Born in Williamsport on July 1, 1940, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Irene (Bressler) Orwig.
Dick graduated from Williamsport High School with the Class of 1958. Upon graduation, he was employed at Williamsport Milk Products (Hurr’s Dairy). He joined the Army reserves in 1962, from which he enlisted into active duty in 1978 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class on December 1, 1993. Following his discharge from the Army, he was employed at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, where he scheduled and planned services for veterans, their spouses, and dependent children. He retired from the cemetery in 2011. Dick was a founding member of the Wenonah Falls Farm Hunting Club in Sullivan County, where he enjoyed being in the woods with his sons, grandsons, and granddaughters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Scott Orwig of Lebanon, Marc Orwig of Fredericksburg, and Dan Orwig of Pine Grove; daughter Amy Fisher of Lebanon; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A funeral procession will form at 10:45 a.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown.
