Richard L. Hormel Sr., 84, formerly of Jonestown and Lake Placid, FL, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at StoneRidge Poplar Run in Myerstown. He was the loving husband of the late Garnet M. (Lunn) Hormel. They were happily married for 50 years.

Born in Pittsburgh on Oct. 12, 1940, he was the son of the late James and Juanita (McMurray) Hormel.

Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict, and he retired as a MSgt. from the Army National Guard. He retired from Indiantown Gap, where he worked in supplies at the Heliport. He also retired from the state, where he worked in the mailroom for PEMA. He was a founding member of the New Life Chapel in Lebanon. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, traveling, and, especially, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Spaulding-Hormel; son, Richard L. Jr., and his wife, Shelley, of York; daughter, Lisa M., wife of David Fox, of Jonestown; step-sons, Stacey, husband of Dee Williams, of Sebring, FL, Chad Williams, of Lake Placid, FL, Timothy, husband of Kelly Williams, of Plant City, FL, and Stephen Williams, of Sebring, FL; sister, Barbara, wife of Don Bradley, of Oakdale; grandsons, Joshua (Alyse) Group, Austin (Jessica) Hormel, Brendon (Brittany) Hormel, Troy (Ashley) Gehrke, and Andrew (Kristianna West) Fox; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
