Richard L. Miller, 87, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at the VA Medical Center in Lebanon.

He was born on Saturday, Feb. 1, 1936, to the late Leon W. Miller and Ida M. Miller nee Gable in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Richard was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served our country from 1955 to 1959 before his honorable discharge from the military. He was a dedicated worker who had a knack for being good at any job he had. Richard worked as a machine operator at ALCOA until his retirement, but he still found ways to keep himself busy. He was a self-taught magician and developer of illusions at Ziggy’s Magic Shop, as well as a former member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Richard also enjoyed listening to classical music, painting with watercolors, making jewelry, fishing, collecting model trains, hunting, playing the guitar, and traveling. He was also very involved at his church, the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Lancaster, as an active choir member and the Clerk of the Works.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Joan Miller; children, Jennifer Gregg and Gregory Hicks; step-son, Daniel Althouse; grandchildren, Steven Boepple, Benjamin Boepple, Justin Boepple, Michelle Boepple, Reginald Hicks, and Emma Michael; and nieces, Julie Burkey and Sue Knerr, as well as many great-nieces.

He was predeceased by his sister, Sandra L. Felker, and Gloria Miller nee Althouse.

Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 3131 Columbia Ave., Lancaster, PA. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., followed by the memorial service and ceremonial breaking of the wand at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service at the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church Memorial Garden.
