Ricky D. Hicks, of Lebanon, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 30, 2022, at Cedar Haven.

Ricky was born in Lebanon on May 1, 1950, to the late Durwood ‘Woody’ Hicks, and the late Joan Hicks, neé Hershberger.

He attended Ebenezer Elementary School and Harrison Junior High. Due to the realigning of school district boundaries, Rick spent his junior and senior years at Cedar Crest High School, where he graduated in 1968. In his heart, however, he always considered himself a Lebanon High alumnus.

Rick began his career at Buell Engineering Co. in 1969. Buell changed names, and hands, several times over the years, and Rick stayed with the company through all of them. During that time, he earned an Associate’s Degree from The Thompson Institute. He fully retired in 2015.

In his younger days, Rick enjoyed many activities, including camping, fishing, and playing many different sports. He was always interested in computers and electronics, as evidenced by the several Alexas and Googles he had in his home. He was also an avid reader and book collector of all subjects and genres. In his later years, Rick continued to enjoy reading and electronics, cheering on Penn State, and he added flying drones to his hobby list.

Rick was an animal lover, and he adopted his beloved cats from the Humane Society. We are positive he was greeted at Rainbow Bridge by his many canine and feline companions, as well as all of his grandpets.

Rick was also active in book groups, swimming, and his church. One of his greatest joys was being ‘Baw-Baw’ to his only grandchild and his many ‘adopted’ grandchildren, all of who adored him.

Rick is survived by his two daughters, Tracy Hicks Troup and Michelle Hicks Duffy; his granddaughter Kacy Troup; his grandpuppy Nomi; his sons-in-law Kristopher Troup and Daniel Duffy; brother Terry Hicks and wife Diane; sister Dee-Ann Remlinger; sister Kathy Buchter and husband Archie; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by two infant brothers, Kerry and Randy.

Services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Zion Goshert’s UCC. The address is 1588 Mt. Zion Road, Lebanon. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, and the service will start at 7:00 pm. Inurnment/burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Rick hated dressing up and wearing suits, and he would not want his funeral service to be a sad, stuffy affair. Instead, please wear Penn State attire, or happy colors to celebrate Rick’s positive outlook on life, for that will be one of the biggest parts of him we will miss.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Zion Goshert’s UCC or the Humane Society of Lebanon County.
