Robert G. Yiengst, 89, passed away on Aug. 10, 2022, at his home in Jonestown.
He was born on Aug. 27, 1932, to Roy D. Yiengst and Margaret (Boyer) Yiengst. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janet (Reigel) Yiengst; daughters, Cindy Davidson, of Argyle, NY, and Julie Bowerman, of Harrisburg; grandson, Kyle Bowerman; and sister, Dolores (Richard) Luchansky, of Lexington, KY.
Bob graduated from Lebanon High School, Class of 1950. He served onboard the USS Roanoke, in the U.S. Navy from 1951-55 during the Korean Conflict, and was an active member for many years of the Roanoke crew organization, which met annually around the country.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he drove truck for Quaker Alloy (Harsco) for many years and then turned his interest to antique collecting. An avid collector and dealer, specializing in Lebanon bottles, car parts, and toys, he was well-known among his colleagues, and customers sought him out for his knowledge and fair deals. His presence at the local auctions, Root’s Market, and the numerous car and bottle shows has been greatly missed as his health precluded him from attending.
He was an avid outdoorsman, appreciating nature and wildlife. He and Janet traveled to every U.S. state except Kansas and throughout Canada. His favorite trip was seeing polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba.
Unassuming with a boundless sense of humor, Bob was a source of joy to all who knew him. Jonestown has lost a valued pinochle player.
Bob invited friends and family to celebrate his life at his 80th birthday party a decade ago. At Bob’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. His ashes will be scattered at Indiantown Gap National Military Cemetery.
