Robert Sidney Edris, 70, of Mount Aetna, passed away peacefully on Friday evening Feb. 26, 2021. Despite what his daughter Megan is saying, he did not succumb to injuries sustained from a tragic sky diving accident.

An incredibly social man, he will be remembered for his faith, his grace, and service to those around him. A lifelong resident of Berks county, Bob grew up in Rehersburg and began delivering the Reading Eagle as a young child. His sweet personality endeared him to so many, that he increased the circulation of the paper on his route over twofold and won a trip to the World’s Fair in New York.

As an active member of the Boy Scouts, he enjoyed camping and had the pleasure to meet President Truman (and hear him curse.) Bob graduated from Tulpehocken High school class of 1968 and went on to attend Mansfield College.  Forever a hard worker, Bob held various jobs before retiring from Cedar Haven Nursing Home. He served his community as a member of Salem Reformed Church, Frystown Lions Club, Frystown Playground Association, Tulpehocken Council of Churches & Minority Inspector of Elections.

He is survived (and dearly missed) by the wife who grounded him for over 48 years, Kathie C Edris, his five children, Keirstan G Edris, Megan B. and D. Heath Webb, Hillary R. Edris and Josh Pfeffer, and his grandson, Isaac G. Webb. Also grieving his loss are father, Robert L. Edris, sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Rick Plymale, brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Theresa Edris, and his nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth L. Edris, sister, Shari Edris, and nephew, Michael Plymale.

An avid lover of animals he also leaves behind his grand dogs, Seamus, Kayte, Rufus, Winnie, Mimi, and Wally. A brooding grand-cat, Moe, and hundreds of beloved birds that will soon be homeless when Megan trims the trees, that he would so fiercely protect to prevent the loss of one potential bird’s nest.

A socially distant memorial/picnic will be held to celebrate his life, May 8th, 2021 3 p.m. at the Mount Aetna Community Playground, 9 West Tanner Street, Myerstown PA 17067. All are welcome to attend, please bring chairs & we ask that you wear white or bright colors as he HATED the idea of wearing black for sadness.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Lions Leader Dog for the Blind, PO Box 5000, Rochester, MI 48308-5000, In Memory Of Robert S Edris. (Sadly, there were no hearing-impaired helping dogs available in the last decade of Bob’s life…)

Ultimately, Bob was the best husband, father, and man a family could hope for. He prayed feverishly, worried endlessly, and loved unconditionally. Now that he’s gone we hope you will give away what he leaves behind, love. Call your family tell them you love them, visit a shut-in, send flowers to someone in a home, give away love whenever and wherever you can to help care for those he leaves behind.
