Russell E. Horner, 87, of Jonestown, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Carol K. Harpster Horner, who was the love of his life. On March 1st, they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
Born in Baree Twp., Huntingdon County, on August 27, 1933, he was the son of the late Daniel A. and Hazel Wilson Horner. Russell retired in 1988, after serving as the Postmaster at the Lebanon Post Office. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Jonestown United Methodist Church, the Jonestown and Fredericksburg American Legions, the Mt. Zion Fire Co., and the Lewistown Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and especially hunting and fishing. Following retirement, he became a Charter Boat Captain at Indian River Inlet in DE and was Captain of the Pony Express and the Shamrock.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Richard R. husband of Cynthia Horner, of Jonestown, Kelly L. wife of John Murphy, of Jonestown and Daniel R. husband of Lauri Horner, of Lebanon; sisters Clara Miller, of Belleville, Peggy Zook, of Reedsville; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Russell was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his sister Lucy Hartley.
Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery
