Samuel A. Ollar Jr., 97, of Annville, and formerly of Lickdale, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Lebanon Valley Home in Annville. He was the husband of the late Naomi L. Ditzler Ollar.
Born in Bordnersville on April 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Samuel A. and Mary Zechman Ollar.
Sam served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. His unit was the first to land on the island following the bombing of Hiroshima and the first unit to land at Hacksaw Ridge. He was proud of his service but would rarely ever discuss it. He retired from the Army National Guard after working at Indiantown Gap. For over 50 years, he was also the owner/operator of Ollar’s Upholstery in Lickdale. He enjoyed hunting, especially in Potter County. He was very active and dedicated to his family and always enjoyed taking them to the mountains for picnics or going to the beach. There was always an adventure to look forward to.
He is survived by his daughters, Gail L., wife of Joseph Reinhard, of Myerstown, and Debra M. Ollar-Carpenter, of Lebanon; grandchildren, Nathan (Michelle) Carpenter, Dorian Carpenter, Sarah (Zach) Blessing, Rebekah (Jordan Deitrick) Carpenter, and Abigail Reinhard; and great-grandchildren, Daymien, Ella Grace, McKenah, and Alexander.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Isadore Ollar; and sisters, Stella Decker, Christine Zanic, and Mary Tice.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A procession will be leaving the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown, at 9:30 a.m.
