It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley A. “Gammy” Fletcher, 71, of Hummelstown, on Nov. 16, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Mechanicsburg, PA, on May 28, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Clair and Reba (Griest) Gettys, of Dillsburg, PA. Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Shirley graduated from Northern High School and was a loving and devoted wife, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Throughout her life, Shirley worked at Laucks news agency, South Hanover Elementary School, and Hallmark. But her most cherished job was taking care of her six grandchildren that she adored. You could always find Shirley with any of her grandchildren, whether it was attending sporting events, school concerts, or dance recitals, she never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Shirley was not only known as Gammy by her grandchildren but also by her grandchildren’s friends and her children’s close friends.
Shirley not only loved to do anything and everything for her children and grandchildren, but she also loved spending time with her extended family and friends. She also had a passion for gardening, cooking, and being outdoors, particularly going on camping trips with her family. Shirley will be remembered for her compassionate soul, warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Alan B. Fletcher; daughter, Holly A. Verdelli, and her husband, Larry, of Palmyra, PA; son, Joshua A., and his wife, Emily (Lau), of Romansville, PA; six grandchildren that she absolutely adored, Grace, Isabella, Cecelia, Lukas, Landon, and Caroline; and her golden retriever, Winston.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Gettys.
Memorial services to honor and celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at the Hershey Free Church, 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown, PA 17036. A time of visitation with the family will begin at 1 p.m., and services will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
