Shirley R. Books, 86, of Grantville, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, at Cedar Haven. She was the wife of the late Harvey D. Books.
Born in Bellegrove on June 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and June Runkle Walmer.
Shirley worked as a cook at Esthers, the Lebanon Valley Home in Annville, and the former Jake’s Truckstop. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Shirley loved flowers, chickens, crocheting, baking, and especially her Rat Terrier, Bella.
She is survived by her son, John, husband of Ann Fake, of Lebanon; daughters, Brenda Lee Albright, of Green Point, Tina Marie, wife of Melvin Houtz, of Jonestown, and June Ann Dipalo, of Grantville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nephew, Stewart C. Walmer, of Annville.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Lynn Babe; and brother, Donald R. Walmer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 6 Boundary Road, Grantville. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Grantville.
