Susan T. Conrad, 64, of Helotes, TX, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, TX. She was the wife of Colonel James L. Conrad (USAF, Ret) formerly of Newmanstown, PA. They celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on July 22, 2020.
Raised in Sylacauga, AL, Susan was born in Mobile, AL on July 8, 1956. She was the daughter of the late Dr. John L. Thompson, Jr. and Ann S. (Swift) Thompson. A 1974 graduate of Marion Military Institute, Marion, AL, Susan received her Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Southern Seminary Junior College, Buena Vista, VA in 1976 and used that degree to work with special needs students and as a volunteer for various worthy causes including the Fisher House.
Susan enjoyed traveling for Jim’s Air Force career and lived in several US states. She particularly enjoyed her time in Alaska and the United Kingdom. Susan was a lover of all animals. She had many cats, dogs, and shelter animals during her life. She had a fondness for birds, especially hummingbirds. Susan enjoyed classic cars and Sunday drives with Jim in her MG Midget. Like her father, she was a loyal fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and never missed watching them play.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kathryn E. Conrad, of Denton, TX, son, James L. (Catherine) Conrad, Jr., of West Carrollton, OH, brother, John L. Thompson III, of Sylacauga, AL, and five nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services are private.
