Theodore Folke Hermanson, age 90 of Palmyra, PA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Londonderry Village in Palmyra on Friday November 19, 2021. He was a proud son of the town of Kane, PA, the “Icebox of Pennsylvania”, born January 28, 1931, to the late Folke O. and Viola Gustafson Hermanson at Kane Community Hospital.
Ted graduated from Kane Area High School in the class of 1949 and served in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1954 as an Electrician’s Mate 1st Class. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1958 with a BS degree in Business and was a member of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity.
He was employed by the Interstate Commerce Commission in Cleveland, Ohio in the early 1960s and then returned to Pennsylvania in 1965 where he became the co-owner of Kreider’s Clothing and Shoe Store in Palmyra with his wife, Winnie, until 1986. He was then employed by Monumental Life Insurance until retiring in 1993.
Ted was a member of Palm Lutheran Church since 1965 where he served as President and Financial Secretary. He was a former member of the Palm Rotary Club and served as President, Treasurer and Paul Harris Fellow. Ted was a member of the Nittany Lions Club, a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association and a long time supporter of Penn State football. He was also a former President of the Lebanon County Chapter of AARP, a volunteer with the Friends of Spang Crest Auxiliary and an assistant coach of Palmyra Little League Baseball.
Surviving Ted are his wife, Winifred Kreider Hermanson; his sons Gregory, Robert (wife Cheryl), Theodore (wife Melissa) and Frederick (wife Kim) Hermanson; his sister, Joyce Weirich of Kane, PA; his nieces Jennifer Peterson (husband Dennis), Jill Greene (husband Phil) and Julie Wittman (husband Mike); his grandsons Gage (wife Carina), Gavin (wife Alyssa), Miles, Vance, Finn and Fletcher Hermanson; his granddaughter Malin Hermanson; his great grandsons Luca, Kai, Mavic, Oakley and Theo Hermanson and his great granddaughter Emma Felice.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday December 20, 2021 at Palm Lutheran Church at 11 West Cherry Street, Palmyra, preceded by a visitation at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Palm Lutheran Church and the Good Samaritan Fund at Londonderry Village, 1200 Grubb Road, Palmyra, PA 17078.
