Thomas J. Hanlon III passed away peacefully at home on July 24, 2025.
Tom was born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Hillsborough, New Jersey. After attending Hillsborough High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1965. He volunteered for service in Vietnam (1966-1967) and underwent extensive training at Camp Pendleton in California, becoming proficient in multiple combat weapons before deployment. He was assigned to the Naval Support Battalion in Chu Lai, Vietnam; their main mission was to support the Marine Corps ground combat operations.
Following his discharge, Tom worked in the plumbing trade until health issues from exposure to Agent Orange forced his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting. He lived in various regions of the country before settling in central Pennsylvania about 12 years ago.
Tom is survived by his sister, Carole. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Laura and Thomas Hanlon Jr.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations can be made in Thomas’s name to the Disabled American Veterans organization.
