Tyler J. Horst, 22, of Schaefferstown, PA, died Jan. 9, 2021, of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was born on Aug. 25, 1998 in Chester, PA, the son of Jesse and Laura (Robinson) Horst.
A 2017 graduate of ELCO High School, he was currently a senior at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania majoring in Criminal Justice and minoring in Digital Forensics. Tyler was an exceptional athlete growing up and played sports throughout his life. He was a pitcher for the Lebanon County All-star Midget Baseball Team which won the Central Penn Midget Baseball Haps-Boyer Baseball All-Star Tournament in 2011. He played travel baseball with the Central Penn Renegades for 5 years and won many tournaments with his teammates, including the Cal-Ripken Ironman Tournament in Aberdeen, Maryland in 2012. In high school, Tyler was a distinguished multi-sport athlete who played football, baseball, basketball, track and field, and wrestling through the years. He was an exceptional stand-out for the football team. Tyler led the Lancaster-Lebanon Football League in rushing yards with over 1,400 yards in 2015. He was awarded the prestigious Frantz-Rider-Yohe outstanding football player of the year in 2015. Additionally, he was named all-county all-stars for running back and linebacker in 2015 and 2016. He advanced to districts for the javelin throw in 2016. He earned the Abe Wagner Ironman Award in 2017. He was captain of the Lancaster-Lebanon All-Star Football Team North and scored one of the winning touchdowns in the game in 2017. He went on to play football, as a fullback, at Bloomsburg University for the past four years. He was a scholar-athlete recipient and dean’s list student. He completed his coursework for his major and was in the final months of earning his internship credits as an employee with the Lebanon County Correctional Facility as a correctional officer. He loved spending time at the Chesapeake Bay, riding jet ski near the Annapolis Naval Academy. He was in intensive training to join special forces and serve his country; his remarkable determination, grit, commitment, and desire to fulfill his dream and aspirations of becoming a Navy Seal were profoundly exceptional, admirable, and unparalleled.
He is survived by his parents, Jesse and Laura (Robinson) Horst, brothers, Benjamin and Phillip, both at home, loving high school sweetheart of five years, Sarah Fischer, of Annville, PA, maternal grandmother, Ann (Curt) DeMille, of York, PA, paternal grandparents, Pamela (John) Wise, of Lebanon, PA, Jay (Claudette) Horst, of Jensen Beach, FL, an aunt, Jill (Kurt) Darrenkamp, of Mohnton, PA, uncles, Jason Horst, of Lebanon, PA, and Jeffrey (Jodi) Horst, of Richland, PA, many loving great-aunts and -uncles, cousins, and teammates, and his cherished golden retriever, Liberty.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William H. Robinson, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Zion of Iona Methodist Church, 1920 S. 5th Ave., Lebanon, PA 17042. Viewing hours will be Sunday afternoon 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. prior to the service.
